Wonderful Yeast Rolls

Bruton’s Wonderful Rolls

½ cup shortening            2 packages yeast

½ cup sugar                    4 ½ cups sifted flour

¼ cup cold water            1 teaspoon salt

3 eggs           butter            sesame seeds

Combine shortening, sugar, water and salt in a saucepan.  Bring to a boil.  Pour ¾ cup water into this mixture.  Add 3 beaten eggs.  Add 2 packages yeast to the first cup of flour. Stirring in by hand, slowly add the remaining flour.  Work the dough down and put (melted) butter on top.

Refrigerate, covered with plastic wrap, overnight.

Divide into 4 parts.  Roll out each part like a pie crust about ½ inch thick.  Cut like a pie into 12 wedges (or 8 if larger rolls desired). Spread with melted butter.   Roll into crescent rolls starting with the wide end of wedge.  Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.  Allow to rise in well greased pan 2 hours.  Bake at 400 F until brown, 8 to 10 minutes.
